Recipe: Homemade Granola

Homemade healthy granola recipe

When I dove into my health journey one of the shocking things I started to learn was how much vegetable oil is used in our foods. Even going to the organic store and buying organic granola would have organic sunflower oil in the ingredient list. Regardless of whether vegetable oil is organic or not, it’s not something you or your little ones want to be consuming. It creates inflammation in the body which is just the start of many diseases and health problems. That’s why I started making my own granola and 4 years on I still use the same recipe! Enjoy this recipe, from my family to yours 🤎

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

  • 3/4 cup nut butter of choice (I usually use peanut butter)

  • 2 cups rolled oats

  • 1 cup buckwheat kernels

  • 1 cup shredded coconut

  • 1/2 cup pepita seeds

  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder

  • 1 tsp ginger powder

  • Pinch salt

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Whisk the olive oil and maple syrup together in a large bowl.

  3. Add the nut butter and stir until combined.

  4. Add in the remaining ingredients and mix until combined and everything is coated. It will be quite wet and sticky.

  5. Spread out in one layer on a baking tray then bake in the oven for 15 minutes. Keep an eye on it and rotate it around the oven if certain areas are cooking faster than others.

  6. Store in a sealed container

My favourite way to serve is with 3 tbsp of Nutraviva Collagen Powder sprinkled over the top and mixed through, then add a banana and milk.
